"On 22 January 2019, the Committee for Petitions of the European Parliament, following the request of Eleonora Evi MEP, has decided to call on the European Commission to appear, represented by a European Commissioner, before the PETI Committee, in order to report on the measures that have been adopted following the European Parliament's resolution calling for the resignation of Martin Selmayr, passed on 13 December 2018 with a majority of 71%. The hearing will be held in the framework of a workshop on the conflicts of interest at the EU level that will take place on 2 April 2019", 5 Star Mep Eleonora Evi says.
Evi explains: "The Commission must respect the will of the European Parliament and demand Mr. Selmayr's immediate resignation. It is unacceptable that the European Commission completely disregarded our request. Every day that passes with Mr Selmayr at the head of the Commission's Secretariat-General further damages the reputation of the EU and confirms the unwillingness to effectively address the lack of transparency and the backdoor deals that still characterize the workings of the EU. There's no other way forward for the EU than to become a "glass palace" grounded on the highest principles of integrity, ethics and transparency".
Evi concludes: "We look forward to hearing what the European Commission has to say on the matter but we won't be satisfied with anything less than Mr. Selmayr's resignation".
